Custom Carhartt: A Buyer's Guide to Logo Gear Crews Actually Keep

If you are pricing gear for a crew, you have already noticed the gap. A standard blank cap runs nine to thirteen dollars. A custom Carhartt cap runs about twenty-two. That is roughly double, and the honest question is whether the name on the label is worth the difference.

It usually is, but not for the reason people assume. You are not paying for a better stitch surface or a longer warranty. You are paying for the odds that the gear stays in rotation. Promo caps end up in the shop rag pile. Carhartt gets worn off the clock, on weekends, in the truck, at the kid's game. That is the whole argument, and it either matters for your program or it does not.

Here is what a custom Carhartt order actually involves: which pieces we stock, which decoration method fits each one, why the chest pocket changes your logo placement, and the two very different minimums that apply. We have decorated gear in-house in Houston since 1979, so the numbers below are ours, not estimates.

What "custom Carhartt" means when you are buying for a business

Custom Carhartt means we take a blank Carhartt garment and put your logo on it in our own building. We are a decorator, not a blank-goods distributor. Your artwork goes onto our embroidery machines and presses in Houston, Texas, and never gets handed to a broker or an outside shop.

The important detail is that Carhartt's own branding stays on the piece. The CT103938 cap has a Carhartt label sewn on the side and Carhartt embroidered on the back. The mesh-back CT105298 carries the sewn side label. The workwear tees keep their label on the pocket. None of that comes off when we add your mark.

So the finished piece is co-branded. Your company name sits next to a brand your crew already trusts, which is a different proposition than a blank cap carrying your logo alone. For recruiting, retention, and the simple question of whether people keep wearing the thing, that pairing does work your logo cannot do by itself.

The Carhartt pieces we stock and decorate

Four Carhartt styles are live right now: two caps and two workwear pocket tees. Between them they cover a crew from a summer job site to a cold-weather field call.

  • Carhartt Cotton Canvas Cap CT103938 — $21.73. Lightly structured, mid-profile, 100% cotton washed canvas with a pre-curved visor and hook-and-loop closure. Carhartt Force sweatband and FastDry technology. Four colors: Black, Brown, Gravel, Solid Navy. One adjustable size, so there is no size split to collect.
  • Carhartt Canvas Mesh Back Cap CT105298 — $21.73. The hot-weather version. Washed canvas front panels with polyester mesh back panels, structured mid-profile crown, adjustable plastic closure. Five colors including Solid Moss Green and Shadow Grey.
  • Carhartt Workwear Pocket Short Sleeve T-Shirt CTK87 — from $17.00. A serious 6.75-ounce 100% cotton jersey knit with a rib knit crewneck, left chest pocket, and side-seamed construction that keeps it from twisting in the wash. Fifteen colors, including Brite Orange and Brite Lime for visibility requirements. Sizes S through 4XL.
  • Carhartt Workwear Pocket Long Sleeve T-Shirt CTK126 — from $28.00. Same 6.75-ounce fabric and pocket, with rib knit cuffs that keep sleeve prints from distorting. Six colors, S through 4XL. Full arm coverage against sun and abrasion.

The two caps live in Carhartt Hats. The tees sit alongside the rest of our custom printed t-shirts and long sleeve t-shirts.

Embroidered Carhartt or printed: which method fits which piece

Washed canvas is one of the better surfaces in headwear for embroidery, so on the caps, stitching is almost always the answer. Flat embroidery sits cleanly on the canvas face, 3D puff adds weight when a company name needs presence from across a yard, and a leather patch reads naturally against a worn cotton front. Direct-to-film printing is there for full-color artwork that does not translate to thread.

The tees are the opposite situation. A 6.75-ounce cotton jersey takes ink well, so screen printing handles a large back panel with your company name and phone number, and DTF printing covers detailed or multi-color marks. Left chest embroidery on the pocket is the exception where stitching still wins, because it gives you a small, permanent mark that survives industrial laundering.

The practical version of Carhartt custom embroidery for most crews is a stitched left chest on the tee, a stitched front on the cap, and a printed back panel on the shirt. One digitized file runs across every style we decorate, so the mark matches whether it landed on canvas or cotton.

The chest pocket changes where your logo can go

This is the detail that catches most first-time buyers, and it is worth settling before you send artwork. Both Carhartt workwear tees have a left chest pocket, which is exactly where a standard left chest logo would normally sit.

You have three workable options. Embroider directly onto the pocket, which is the most common solution and looks intentional rather than improvised. Print above or opposite the pocket, which keeps a wider mark intact. Or skip the chest entirely and run a full back print, which the pocket does not affect at all.

We lay all of this out on a free digital mockup at actual size and placement before anything is decorated, so nothing lands crooked on the first shirt. If you are running the same logo on caps and tees together, the mockup is also where you confirm the stitched cap mark and the printed shirt mark read as the same brand.

What a Carhartt program costs, and the two minimums

Caps and apparel have different minimums, and mixing them up is the most common ordering surprise. Caps start at 12 pieces per decorated design, with volume pricing tiers opening at 24. The workwear tees have no minimum at all. Order one, order four hundred, order a single 4XL next month for a new hire.

That split is useful. It means you can buy one CTK87 as a sample, confirm the fit and the print, and then commit to the full roster without having bought a case of shirts on faith. Caps do not work that way, but the four cap colors can be mixed to reach a pricing tier as long as the decoration stays identical across them.

For a rough build: a dozen CT103938 caps and a dozen CTK87 tees puts a twelve-person crew in co-branded Carhartt for around $465 in blanks before decoration. Production runs 7–10 business days from the moment you approve your proof, rush is available on request, and ground shipping is free on most orders. Your digitized file stays with us afterward, so reorders skip setup entirely.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for custom Carhartt?

It depends on the category. Carhartt caps start at 12 pieces per decorated design, with volume pricing tiers beginning at 24. Carhartt workwear tees have no minimum, so a single piece is a normal order.

Does the Carhartt label stay on after you add our logo?

Yes. The sewn side label on the caps, the Carhartt embroidery on the back of the CT103938, and the label on the tees all stay in place. The finished piece is co-branded, which is the main reason buyers choose Carhartt over a standard blank.

Can you embroider a Carhartt shirt that has a chest pocket?

Yes. Embroidering directly onto the left chest pocket is the most common approach on both the CTK87 and CTK126. If your mark is too wide for the pocket, we place it above or opposite the pocket, or move it to a back print. Every option appears on your free mockup first.

How long does a custom Carhartt order take?

Plan on 7–10 business days from the moment you approve your digital proof. Rush production is available on request. Tell us your in-hands date when you send artwork and we will confirm it before we start.

Can we put the same logo on Carhartt caps and shirts in one order?

Yes, and most trade shops do exactly that. One digitized file runs across every style we decorate. Just remember the two minimums: the caps are ordered by the dozen, the shirts are not.

Getting started

Custom Carhartt is worth the premium when you need gear that survives the season and keeps your name visible after hours. If that is your program, the four styles above cover a crew from a July afternoon to a February morning, and one logo file carries across all of them.

Start with Carhartt Hats for headwear, or browse the full custom embroidered hats and custom trucker caps ranges if you want to compare against standard blanks first. Send your logo and we will build a free digital mockup before you commit to anything.
